The Student Room Group

Living abroad

Hi, I've recently moved to Canada but am hoping to apply for a PGCE when I return. Before moving I'd lived in the UK my whole life and am a British citizen. I noticed one of the eligibility criteria for student finance was to have lived in the UK for the past 3 years? Would I still be able to apply for student finance when I return? I'm planning to stay here for up to two years.
Hi MeganS1234

Did you move permanently to Canada or was it a temporary break for something?

Thanks

Just temporarily. I have a work visa so plan to work here for about 1 to 2 years before returning to the UK.

Thanks

Hi

If it is classed as a temporary break in residency, you will be able to apply. We will require original evidence to show that the move was not permanent such as:

A contract from the employer that clearly shows the employment is of a temporary nature

Temporary visas or work permits

A letter from the employer on headed paper confirming temporary employment including dates

These are reviewed on a case by case basis

Thanks
